Making
Do I need any experience?
No. Every kit is made for a first go: the designs and patterns are planned for you and a step-by-step guide comes in every box. Most kits are marked Easy or Relaxed on their page.
How long does a kit take?
A mosaic lamp takes two to four hours, the candle holder one to two. A ceramic piece takes one to two hours. Resin takes about two hours, then cures overnight.
What's in the box?
Everything you need. A mosaic lamp kit has the glass globe, the antique-bronze base (wired), hand-cut glass and beads, glue, grout, tools, gloves and the design sheet. Each kit page lists its own box.
Do I need a kiln for the ceramics?
No. The porcelain paints are water-based: you set the colours by baking the piece in your home oven. The guide in the box has the steps.
Is the lamp ready to plug in?
Yes, the base comes wired. The camping lamp is rechargeable, so there's no mains cable to plug in.
Can kids make them?
The ceramic paints are water-based and non-toxic, and the ceramic kits are a favourite with kids. Mosaic glass has edges, so younger makers need a grown-up alongside.
Ordering
Which design do I get?
The one you choose. Most lamp kits come in twelve designs: pick one on the kit page and it goes into your bag by name, with the glass for that design.
What's the VIP gift box?
The Tall Mosaic Lamp kit in a keepsake gift box, with the step-by-step guide printed inside the lid. Same kit, same twelve designs; it's $10 more than the kit box.
Is there a discount?
Finish the three little workshops on the home page and your Maker Passport unlocks 10% off a kit.
How much is shipping?
Shipping is worked out at checkout, before you pay.
Something wrong with my kit?
Email support@thruart.com with your order number and a photo.
For studios
What's the minimum order?
12 of each kit, in whole boxes. Kits come in boxes of 12, 6, 4 or 1, so that's one box of the Mini or the candle holder, two of the Table or Camping lamp, three of the Swan or Aladdin.
How fast does it arrive?
Orders are dispatched within 72 hours. Order early in the week for a weekend workshop.
How do I pay?
By bank transfer against the invoice for each order. Your order history and invoices live in the trade portal.
Where do I see trade prices?
In the trade portal, once your studio is approved. We check every application (the business, its ABN, its website and a reference) before we open an account; then your tier price shows on every line of the quick-order table.
Can my guests buy a kit after the workshop?
Yes. Every box has a QR on the back that takes them to the same kit on thruart.com.au.
